Abstract
In this paper a procedure for evaluating diagnostic reliability of a hierarchic diagnostic system is presented. Starting from a functional description of the large scale system under analysis, it is shown how the result of this analysis reflects into a hierarchy of the diagnosis system and into a hierarchic procedure to evaluate the probability of not generating false alarms and missed diagnosis starting from the elaboration of the residual signals generated by the diagnostic algorithms. It will be shown how this results can be used both for an off-line analysis and on the fly. Finally a robotic system will be used to show the proposed procedure.
